Yes, completely free. A site walk, a scope conversation, and a rough budget number cost you nothing. If we end up bidding the work, you get a line-item proposal you can take to other contractors for comparison. If we are not the right fit for your project, we will tell you - and we will usually point you toward someone who is. Free consultations cover anywhere we work: Charlotte, Ballantyne, Fort Mill, Lake Norman, and the rest of the Carolina region.
How quickly does We Build respond to consultation requests?
Two business days, almost always sooner. The contact form goes to a real person on our team, not an inbox monitored once a week. The initial phone call usually takes 15-20 minutes - just enough to scope the project and decide if a site walk makes sense. If it does, we will get one on the calendar within the same week most of the time. Is there a minimum project size or budget for We Build?
No hard minimum, but practically speaking most of our commercial projects start around $25,000. Below that, the overhead of permitting, project management, and proper insurance starts eating most of the budget - and you are usually better served by a smaller specialty contractor. If your project is sub-$25k or it is really a maintenance/repair scope rather than a construction scope, just tell us. We have a list of trusted Charlotte-area subs and tradespeople we can refer you to. Honest fit assessment is part of the free consultation.
Is We Build licensed and insured for construction in North Carolina?
Yes. NC General Contractor license #85107 (verifiable at nclbgc.org) and SC General Contractor license #122817. We carry general liability, workers comp on all employees, builder risk on active projects, and commercial auto. We are USGBC members and FAA Part 107 certified for our drone work. How should I prepare for a construction estimate visit?
Helpful (not required): architectural plans or a sketch if you have them, the timeline you are aiming for, the budget range you have in mind, and any material or brand preferences. For commercial tenants: bring the lease work-letter so we can read what is reimbursable before quoting. For owner-occupied projects: title or ownership documentation if there is any HOA or association approval involved. Do not worry if you have nothing prepared - the first visit is also discovery, and we are good at helping owners scope a project from a blank sheet of paper.
Can We Build handle emergency or urgent construction projects?
We Build does accommodate urgent and time-sensitive construction projects when possible. If you have storm damage, a structural issue, a commercial tenant improvement with a tight lease deadline, or any other time-critical situation, call us directly at (980) 471-1745 and let us know the urgency. We will do our best to schedule an emergency site visit within 24 to 48 hours and can often mobilize crews quickly for critical repairs.
